Signing a PDF on a Chromebook
- Open opensigner.online in Chrome and drop your PDF in the box above, or click it to open the Files app.
- Draw your signature with the touchpad or a stylus, or with your finger on a touchscreen Chromebook, or type your name for a handwriting-style signature.
- Place it on the page, add a date, and click Finalize & export. The signed PDF is saved to your Downloads folder.
Files from Google Drive
The ChromeOS Files app shows your Google Drive. If you pick a file from there, ChromeOS fetches it from Drive for you. OpenSigner itself still reads it locally and uploads nothing. To sign while offline, make the file available offline in the Files app first, or copy it to Downloads.
Offline mode
The first time you visit, a service worker saves the app's code in Chrome's cache. After that, the signing and verifying tools open and work with no connection at all, which is handy on a school or travel Chromebook with patchy Wi-Fi. Chrome may also offer to install OpenSigner as an app from the address bar, so you can open it from the launcher.
School and work Chromebooks
Managed Chromebooks sometimes block sites or downloads. If the page won't load or the download is blocked, ask your administrator. Because OpenSigner sends no documents over the network, it fits well with policies that restrict uploading files to third-party sites.
